New to the Poll:
TCU (#25)

Dropped Out:
Northwestern (#21)

Waiting in the Wings:
  • Tulsa: Undefeated, but very weak schedule. Upcoming game on ESPN against Arkansas will let the Golden Hurricanes shine on a national stage.
  • Georgia Tech: 5-1, and very likely to be 7-1 when they battle Florida State. Barring an upset from Clemson or Virginia.
  • Pittsburgh: Finally performing to preseason expectations. 4-1 with a very winnable game against Navy this weekend in Annapolis.
  • Minnesota:6-1 with an impressive win against Illinois. Extremely possible this team wins out.
Explanations/Odds/Ends/What-Have-Yous
  • Lots of little movement this week. Mostly due to the fact that the bottom half of the poll had some impressive wins, and some mid-poll teams struggled against weaker competition. We're probably a bit high on Texas Tech but that will sort itself out soon enough.
  • Resume matters. Quite frankly, this is the time of year that your resume and performance within it matters the most. Take for example, Ball State. Undefeated. Great team. No marquee wins, no major competition. Indiana is looking less and less like a feather in the cap.
  • Blackjack. This becomes the 4th week of the season that #21 in our poll has gotten beat and fallen from the rankings. Wake Forest... you're officially on upset alert.
  • Of the Top 5, two are Big 12 teams, two are SEC teams, one is a Big Ten team. Much better than the 4 of the Top 6 from one conference that we saw last week.
